The BAFTA Film Awards nominations 2024 have been revealed, showcasing a diverse array of films spanning various genres and stories. Christopher Nolan’s atomic biopic, “Oppenheimer,” leads the pack with an impressive 13 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film stands just one nomination shy of equaling the record set by “All Quiet on the Western Front” in 2023.

Following closely behind is Yorgos Lanthimos’ black comedy, “Poor Things,” with 11 nominations, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, and Adapted Screenplay. Martin Scorsese’s epic “Killers Of The Flowers” secures nine nominations, making its mark in categories like Best Film, Supporting Actor (Robert DeNiro), and Cinematography (Rodrigo Prieto). Jonathan Glazer’s Cannes drama, “The Zone Of Interest,” also garners nine nominations, marking a career-best for the British filmmaker.

Other notable films in the lineup include “Anatomy of A Fall,” “The Holdovers,” and “Maestro,” each earning seven nominations. Andrew Haigh’s enigmatic drama “All of Us Strangers” lands six nods, while Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn” follow closely with five nominations each.

In the performance categories, 11 out of 23 nominees are receiving their first BAFTA nomination, adding a fresh and exciting dynamic to the awards. The Best Director category features four first-time nominees, including Jonathan Glazer, Andrew Haigh, Alexander Payne, and Justine Triet, with Triet being the sole woman in the category.

British titles making a mark include Raine Allen Miller’s “Rye Lane” and Molly Manning Walker’s “How To Have S*x,” which earned recognition in Outstanding British Film categories.

Studios with a significant presence in the nominations include Disney/Searchlight leading with 22 nods, followed by Universal with 14. A24, an indie studio, impresses with nine nominations, all from Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone Of Interest.” Apple stands out among streaming platforms with 14 nominations, including four for Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon,” while Netflix clocks in with 12 overall.

The winners will be revealed at the BAFTA Film Awards Nominations 2024 ceremony, hosted by actor David Tennant, on February 18 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London. With a rich and diverse selection of films, this year’s BAFTA promises to celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of talented individuals in the film industry.
